This year, Good For Her has had the pleasure of partnering with Good Releasing in the creation of the Emerging Filmmaker Award. The EFA honors new and emerging filmmakers by providing a monetary award to aid in the completion of their first erotic film project. Applicants were asked to submit a project manifesto in which they describe their project, their intentions and their background. This year, it was an incredible task to choose a winner from the creative and diverse applicant pool, but one applicant presented a project that not only deserves FPA recognition, but addresses an obvious lack in current industry representation. It is my honor, on behalf of Good For Her and Good Releasing to present this years Emerging Filmmaker Award to Tobi Hill Meyer for her work on Doing It Ourselves: The Trans Women Porn Project.

With the creation of both dirty movies and interactive web communities, Shine Louise Houston continues to be on the forefront, pushing for better representation in erotic film. How do you give a lifetime achievement award to someone who is at the top of their game and not losing any steam? In an industry with an incredibly high turn over rate, it is remarkable when someone can sustain a ten year career while simultaneously continuing to stay true to her intentions and expand the scope and impact of feminist porn. A trailblazer makes way for others to follow and opens up new opportunities for people attempting to forge their own path through similar avenues. In feminist pornography, one name evokes an understanding of art, of advocacy, of education and of quality – Tristan Taormino.

Honourable Mentions:
This year at the Feminist Porn Awards we were overwhelmed by the quality and the quantity of submissions. The jury tirelessly screened and offered feedback about each qualifying movie and discussed merits based on important standards: either that a woman had a hand in the production of the movie, that it depicts genuine pleasure and consent, and/or it expands the boundaries of sexual representation on film. It was sadly impossible to award each fantastic submission we received. However, we selected 4 films that we couldn’t let slip by without mentioning.

1) Dirty Diaries: 12 Shorts of Feminist Porn – This collection of short films from Sweden was quite controversial when it was discovered that government funding had helped produce porn. An artisitc delight, these 12 vignettes are diverse, edgy and sexy and a great addition to the world of feminist porn.
2) Women Love Porn— Anna Span, a previous Feminist Porn Award winning director sought the best new female directors through a contest in Great Britain. Watch out for these new creators of feminist porn with these and forthcoming sexy scenes.
3) Sensual Massage for Pregnancy— Veteran FPA award winner, Jayia takes a new and sensual persepctive on sex and pregnancy. Recommended for all those who want more pleasure with pregnant!
4) Cocksucker—Julie Simone’s short film features both the power and pleasure of oral sex on men and offers a very intimate look at a very common act.

TRISTAN TAORMINO is an award-winning author, columnist, editor, sex educator, and adult filmmaker. She is the author of six books including Opening Up: Creating and Sustaining Open Relationships, and The Big Book of Sex Toys.
