Good For Her is proud to announce the winners of the 2007 Feminist Porn Awards!
Toronto, ON, June 3, 2007: On Friday June 1st feminist pornographers from Canada, UK and the US, came together at The Gladstone Hotel for a steamy and certainly x-rated celebration of feminist porn, and to mark Good For Her’s 10th anniversary as Canada’s premiere female-oriented sex-toy, book and video shop and workshop center. Twelve awards were handed out in categories ranging from Hottest Group Sex Scene to Hottest Diverse Cast in the awards which began in 2006.
“Good For Her came up with the idea for the Feminist Porn Awards because people don’t know they have a choice when it comes to porn,” said Chanelle Gallant, manager of Good for Her and the event’s organizer. “Yes, there’s a lot of bad porn out there. But there is also some great porn being made by and for women. We wanted to recognize and celebrate the good porn makers as well as direct people to their work.”
Hosted by comedienne and playwright trey anthony, more than 350 guests gathered at the century old hotel to toast those contributing to porn that offers a relief from the mainstream.
This year’s celebration brought together a group of incredible filmmakers and performers who have changed how women and people of colour are represented in adult films; Highlights included a roundtable discussion moderated by CoCo La Crème which featured:
- Anna Span, the UK’s first female porn director
- Simone Valentino who starred in the first erotic film aimed at women of colour, directed by a woman of colour.
- Shine Louise Houston, the only queer woman of colour with a distribution deal for her erotic films.
- Peggy Comstock who with her husband Tony are innovators of a new style of indie-documentary porn featuring real life couples.
- Sasha Van Bon Bon, performer and founder of Toronto’s burlesque troupe, the Scandelles, and syndicated sex columnist for eye Weekly, the Montreal Mirror, and the Uptown in Winnipeg.
